To apply for a Visa, all necessary documents in original,complying with all requirementsstated below, may be sent by post to: Consulateof Chile in Vienna, Lugeck 1/3/10, A-1010 Vienna. Documents must be sent in advance, since the visawill not be granted immediately. Upon receipt of all the necessary documents, you willreceive a message via e-mail, indicating the cost of the Visa and giving you anappointment to come personally (bringingyour passport) to sign the forms, taking of fingerprints, and collect the Visa.You will have to pay in advance; the money must be transferred in the Consulateaccount before the appointment. Incompleteapplications will not be processed. In case of doubts or furtherquestions, an e-mail may be sent to viena@consulado.gob.cl, or questionsasked on the phone under the No. (43-1) 512 23 53.

Once a visa is granted, you must travel to Chilewithin the next 90 days. Once in Chile, you have a 30-day-period to register in"Registro General de Extranjeros (General Registry for Foreigners)"of the "Policía Internacional de Chile". Otherwise the visa willbecome void. For information about requirements and offices please visit: http://www.policia.cl/section Extranjería. Likewise,every non-citizen older than 18 years, no matter what kind of visa he/she has, has the obligation to obtain an Identity Card for Foreigners within the next 30 days following the obtention of theresidence permit. Without identity card, you cannot open a bank account, norrent or buy a housing place, nor work. The document is issued by Servicio de Registro Civil eIdentificación (SRCeI).



  • Certificate of Acceptance of the educational establishment, specifying: Studies to be carried out in Chile, Dates of beginning and ending, Address, phone and fax numbers of the educational establishment
  •  Bank certificate, which proves disposal of means to live in Chile (approx. $500.-/month), or notarized Sworn Statement (see example), certifying that the parents or a third person assume all costs
  • Photocopy of the valid passport
  • Health certificate, stating no contagious deseases
  • Police record issued by thelocal authorities
  • 2 passport photos. 80% of the photo must show the face
  • Student Visa application formduly filled, and sent by e-mail in Word to viena@consulado.gob.cl  (notscanned). The e-mail-message must contain full name, address and phone number

NOTE: It is not allowed to work in Chile with a student visa.



  • The working contract, duly signed by the employer before a Notary Public in Chile, and legalized by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Santiago. If the contract is only signed by the employer, the applicant must have it countersigned before a Chilean Consul
  • Photocopy of the validpassport
  • Health certificate, statingno infectious/contagious diseases
  • Police record issued by the local authorities
  • 2 passport photos. 80% of the photo must show the face
  • Contractual Working Visaapplication form duly filled, and sent by e-mail in Word to viena@consulado.gob.cl (not scanned). The e-mail-message must containfull name, address and phone number

NOTE: This visa is valid two years at the longest. If you wish to stay longer, you may apply for Permanent Residence.



This particular type of visa is required to stay in Chile forbusiness, scientific research, technical consulting as well as religious andfamily reasons, etc., one (1) year. An appointment for an interview with the Consul must be requested bye-mail to viena@consulado.gob.cl, stating full name, address, and phonenumber. You must then comepersonally, bring your passport, and all required documents, which must complywith all conditions stated below. Onthat same day, you will be given an appoint to collect the visa, to which youmust come personally, since you musthave your fingerprints taken.


  • Certificate (original and in Spanish language) from the institution, organization or company, informing the reasons and the desired period of time.
  • Statement of economical situation, including certificates; domicile in Chile.
  • Photocopy of the valid passport.
  • Health certificate, stating no infectious/contagious deseases
  • Police record issued by the local authorities.
  • 2 passport photos. 80% of the photo must show the face.
  • Temporary Resident Visaapplication form duly filled, and sent by e-mail in Word to viena@consulado.gob.cl (not scanned). The e-mail-message must containfull name, address and phone number.

Same as above (Temporary Resident Visa), except that the Chilean spouse (with identification, full name, valid passport) has to submit an application letter requesting visa for his/her foreigner spouse, and stating contact in Chile, place to establish, and economic means (stating profession of the interested party). You should also send a copy of the Marriage certificate.



Austrian,Slovak, and Slovene citizen do not requirea tourist visa to enter Chile. They just need a passport valid at least for thetime of stay. The maximun period of stay as tourist is 90 days. All informationmust be requested by e-mail to viena@consulado.gob.cl, or on the phoneunder the No. (43-1) 512 23 53.



  • Valid passport.
  • Proof of domicile country.
  • Information about identity and address of contact persons in Chile.
  • If married to Chilean citizen, marriage certificate.
  • 2 passport photos. 80% of the photo must show the face.
  • Tourist Visa application form duly filled,and sent by e-mail in Word to viena@consulado.gob.cl  (not scanned). Thee-mail-message must contain full name, address and phone number.
